Why I enjoy photography while benefiting from cannabis
October 8, 2022Playing with light is a great experience when one can take the time to be relaxed, patient, and curious. It’s not easy when tight schedules often allow us half the time we need to absorb and capture the subject of environment, product, or person. In my experience, cannabis allows me to appreciate the collaboration with my subject instantaneously as I document them.
I began photographing my friends while we were consuming cannabis on the old house’s back deck. It has a wood fence, beautiful mountain berry trees, and roof access that make sunsets a reason to climb.
This post isn’t supposed to encourage the desire of being a “productive stoner”.
The productivity that results from using cannabis is one that can not be forced. Surround yourself with an environment of subjects that are safe and interesting to you. Engaging with those who enjoy cannabis as well can be a great option to experiment with the ways in which your photographs may be impacted.
Sometimes I will have a stream of ideas, but my curiosity comes to a halt. Cannabis, however, often eliminates my ego in ways that turns the question of “why?” into “why not?”. Why can’t I become a female photographer in an industry dominated by men? Why wouldn’t I combine a specific passion or hidden talent of mine into my next project? Simply, why shouldn’t I be the one to take the photos of Cannabis grown in Montana?
